Haryana DGHS Confirms Building Plans Cleared for Long-Delayed Civil Lines Hospital
The long-pending Civil Lines Hospital project in Gurgaon is expected to move forward soon after the Haryana Health Department approved the building plans for the new healthcare facility.
Haryana Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Manish Bansal confirmed that the land for the project is already available and the building layout has been finalised. He stated that the transition process from the earlier proposal for a 750-bed hospital has now been completed, following which the executing agency will be instructed to begin construction work.
Civil Lines Hospital Project Stalled Since 2019
The Civil Lines Hospital redevelopment project has remained delayed for several years after the old hospital building was demolished in 2019 for reconstruction. The prolonged delay had raised concerns regarding the poor infrastructure and limited capacity of government healthcare services in Gurgaon.
The new hospital is expected to significantly strengthen public healthcare infrastructure in the rapidly growing city.
DGHS Conducts Surprise Inspection at Gurgaon Civil Hospital
During his visit, Dr Bansal conducted a surprise inspection of the Civil Hospital in Sector 10, Gurgaon, and also reviewed healthcare facilities in Gurgaon, Palwal, and Nuh districts.
He inspected various departments including the emergency ward, OPD services, ICU facilities, laboratories, and labour room operations at the Sector 10 hospital.
Speaking about the review, Dr Bansal said the focus of the health department is to improve treatment services at government hospitals, reduce unnecessary patient referrals, and ensure better healthcare accessibility for the public.
Hospital Services Found Satisfactory During Inspection
Officials stated that several hospital services, including laboratory facilities, X-ray operations, emergency care, and ICU management, were functioning satisfactorily during the inspection.
No major irregularities or complaints were reportedly found against the hospital staff during the review process.
Haryana Health Department Raises Concern Over Patient Diversion
During the inspection, the DGHS also raised concerns regarding private ambulances and auto-rickshaws stationed near the emergency ward of the hospital.
According to Dr Bansal, some patients are allegedly being persuaded to shift to private hospitals on the pretext that adequate treatment facilities are unavailable at the government hospital.
He directed officials to take strict action against such practices to prevent unnecessary diversion of patients to private healthcare facilities.
