Accused Posed as Hospital Operator

Gorakhpur: A general surgeon posted at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, has allegedly been cheated of Rs 71.22 lakh in a fraudulent land deal by a man posing as a hospital operator and his associates. The accused reportedly used forged documents to extract money and later began threatening the doctor when he demanded a refund.

Complaint Lodged with Police

The doctor, a resident of Gemini Paradise in Moghalaha, approached the Gulriha police station and lodged a detailed complaint. According to the FIR, he was introduced to the main accused, a resident of Sukhad village under Ahirauli police station limits in Kushinagar district, who claimed to be the director of Arshiya Hospital in Karimnagar.

First Deal Turns Out to Be Fake

In 2024, the accused allegedly convinced the doctor to invest in a land deal in Garhwa village of Pipraich. The doctor paid an advance of Rs 30 lakh for 27 decimals of land. However, he later discovered that the land was registered in someone else’s name, raising suspicion of fraud.

Second Deal Involving Rs 1.8 Crore Property

Despite the earlier issue, the accused allegedly roped the doctor into another deal involving seven decimals of land in Fatehpur, Chiluataal, claiming ownership through his grandmother’s in-laws. The property was valued at Rs 1.8 crore, and the doctor reportedly paid Rs 76.22 lakh through a combination of cash payments and bank transfers to multiple accounts linked to the accused and his associates.

Cheque Bounce and Threats

When the sale deeds were not executed despite repeated assurances, the doctor demanded his money back. Under pressure, the accused issued a cheque of Rs 54 lakh on January 28, 2025, which subsequently bounced. The doctor further alleged that he was threatened with death after pressing for repayment.

FIR Registered Against Five Accused

Confirming the case, Gulriha Inspector-in-Charge Vijay Pratap Singh told Jagran that an FIR has been registered against five named accused based on the complaint. He said the police are conducting a detailed investigation into land records, bank transactions and other related documents.

Investigation Underway

Police officials stated that further legal action will be taken after examining the evidence collected during the probe. The case adds to a growing list of incidents where medical professionals have fallen victim to financial frauds involving fake land and investment schemes.
