Panaji : A team of senior expert doctors from multiple specialties will remain stationed round the clock at Goa Medical College (GMC) to monitor the five critically injured victims of the Shirgao Jatra stampede, state Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced on Friday.
“Point-of-care management will be ensured for the comfort and well-being of these patients,” said Rane, following the tragedy that left six people dead and over 80 injured during the religious festival in North Goa.
Current Medical Status
According to GMC Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajesh Patil, 13 patients are currently being treated at GMC, five of whom are on ventilator support. “Two of them are very critical,” he said, adding that none required surgery but sustained injuries such as rib fractures, soft tissue damage, and facial trauma. No electrical burns were reported.
The critically injured were intubated before arriving at GMC, and a green corridor was created to swiftly transfer them to the trauma ICU without disrupting routine emergency services.
Hospital-Wise Distribution of Victims
- GMC (Bambolim): 13 patients (5 critical)
- North Goa District Hospital: 18 patients
- Bicholim Health Centre: 3 patients

In total, 75 victims were admitted to various state-run facilities. Fourteen have been discharged so far from GMC.
Tragic Toll
