Mumbai : Dr. Rakesh Verma, suspended Dean of Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Sion and his two accomplices were booked by Sion Police on charges of cheating a medical student by promising admission to a post-graduate course at Sion Hospital. The police booked Dr. Rakesh Verma, Aditya Kumar alias Anand Sharma and Dheeraj Tiwari on charges of cheating. Dr. Rakesh Verma and his aides have been previously booked by Sion Police in 2021 for allegedly duping students by promising PG seats at Sion Medical College. Later Surat police has arrested Dr. Verma and his aides in a similar cheating case.
In the fresh case, one Dr. Abu Taher Takildar from Kolhapur in 2020 got a call from a person who identified himself as Dr. Anand Sharma and offered to help him in getting admission in PG seat from Government quota at Sion Medical College. On August 2,2020 Dr. Abu came down to Mumbai where he was introduced by Anand Sharma to Dr. Rakesh Verma and Dheeraj Tiwari. Later Sharma demanded Rs.60 Lakhs from Dr. Abu in lieu of the PG seat at Sion Medical College. Dr. Abu paid a token amount of Rs.20 Lakhs along with Rs.1 Lakh as hostel fees to Sharma and Tiwari in the compound of Sion Hospital. Dr. Abu regularly followed up with trio for his admission in the PG but got evasive reply, until Dr. Verma was arrested in 2021 in a similar cheating case.
Later Dr. Abu was re-paid Rs.4 Lakhs of the Rs.21 Lakhs he had paid. He was promised the remaining 17 Lakhs will be paid to him in due course of time. Unable to get his money Dr. Abu approached the Sion police leading to filing of the fresh case of the cheating against Dr. Verma and his aides.
