Doctor-Pharma Nexus exposed : Union Health Minister suspends 2 CGHS doctors

New Delhi : The union Health minister cracked down on the doctor-pharma nexus by suspending two central  government health scheme (CGHS) doctors who were found to be prescribing certain medicines which favored a particular pharmaceutical company. The two chief medical officers suspended by the union Health minister were posted at the CGHS dispensary in Shahdara and at Dwarka Sector 9. The patients were prescribed drugs and directed by these doctors to purchase it from outside even though the same medicines were available at the CGHS central warehouse at affordable rates.

The Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s office received a complaint in this connection a couple of months ago. The minister ordered an enquiry and the preliminary probe revealed severe violations in prescribing medicines and that a group of doctors were favoring a particular pharmaceutical company, an official source said on Sunday.
