Prayagraj – A renowned neurosurgeon in Prayagraj, Dr. Kartikeya Sharma, has been booked for allegedly molesting a 24-year-old student inside his private clinic on April 2, 2026. The Civil Lines police registered the First Information Report (FIR) following a complaint by the victim, a post-graduate student who had visited the doctor for migraine treatment.

The incident reportedly took place at approximately 10:30 PM on Wednesday night at Dr. Sharma’s residence-cum-clinic on Clive Road. According to the victim’s statement:

  • Forced Isolation: Upon her turn (token number 74), the doctor allegedly ordered other patients and staff to leave his chamber and locked both doors from the inside.
  • The Alleged Act: The student claims the 55-year-old neurosurgeon forced her to remove her clothes under the pretext of a physical examination and then touched her inappropriately with “bad intent”.
  • Resistance and Threat: When the victim resisted and expressed her desire to leave without an examination, the doctor allegedly threatened her and told her to return alone for a “future check-up”.

The Doctor’s Defense
Dr. Kartikeya Sharma has categorically denied all allegations, describing them as “baseless” and potentially part of an extortion racket. He claims the patient has been under his care for months for psychiatric issues, including psychosis and depression, and suggests her condition might have led to unfounded accusations. He asserted that a female attendant was present at the door during the examination, which he says lasted barely three minutes and only involved checking her face and abdomen.

Legal Status and Investigation

  • FIR Details: The case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 74 (assault with intent to outrage modesty), Section 76 (compelling a woman to disrobe), and Section 127(2) (wrongful confinement).
  • Evidence Collection: Police have inspected the clinic and confirmed that while cameras are installed outside the chamber, there is no CCTV inside the consultation room.
  • Next Steps: The victim’s statement will be recorded before a magistrate, and the police are reviewing digital video records (DVR) and patient registers to corroborate the sequence of events.
