Surat SOG raid uncovers unqualified practitioner administering medicines without degree; investigation underway

In a shocking development from Surat district, a case of an unqualified individual posing as a doctor has come to light, raising serious concerns about public health and safety in rural areas.

SOG Raid Exposes Illegal Medical Practice

Acting on a tip-off, the Surat Special Operations Group (SOG) conducted a raid in the Navapura GIDC area of Mangrol taluka and apprehended a man allegedly running an illegal clinic. The accused was found operating without any valid medical degree or certification from the Gujarat Medical Council.

Clinic Equipped to Treat Serious Patients

During the inspection, officials discovered that the clinic had two patient beds, indicating that the accused was claiming to treat serious medical conditions. Authorities also seized allopathic medicines, injections, and medical equipment worth approximately ₹4,400 from the premises.

Investigators revealed that the accused had been administering drugs to patients despite having no formal medical training—posing significant risks, including potential life-threatening complications.

Legal Action Initiated, Accused Out on Bail

Following the raid, the accused was detained and legal proceedings were initiated. However, he was later released on bail as per existing legal provisions. Police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further action will depend on additional findings.

Rising Cases of Quackery in Gujarat

The incident highlights a troubling trend of fake doctors operating in parts of Gujarat. Recently, in Anand district, Borsad rural police arrested another individual for allegedly running a makeshift clinic near a madrasa and treating patients without proper qualifications.

Such repeated cases underline the urgent need for stricter monitoring and enforcement to curb illegal medical practices and safeguard public health, particularly in rural regions where access to qualified healthcare professionals remains limited.
