Rabodi police register FIR under BNS, accuse leader of drunk driving and endangering public safety
Thane: A case has been registered against Mahesh Suresh Wagh, a former corporator of the Thane Municipal Corporation and Shiv Sena leader, for allegedly abusing and assaulting a government doctor following a road accident at Meenatai Thackeray Chowk in Thane on Tuesday, police officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to Rabodi Police, the incident occurred when a government orthopaedic surgeon and his sister were returning home after collecting a food parcel from Vikas Complex. As they approached the chowk, Wagh’s vehicle—allegedly being driven on the wrong side—rammed into the doctor’s car, causing damage.
Verbal Abuse, Physical Assault Alleged
As per the doctor’s complaint, Wagh not only hurled abuses at him using foul language but also slapped him during the confrontation. The doctor further alleged that the former corporator was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The situation escalated when the doctor’s sister tried to prevent Wagh from fleeing by standing in front of his car. However, Wagh reportedly continued to drive forward, putting her life at risk, the FIR states.
Case Registered Under New Criminal Code
Rabodi Police have registered a case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including:
- Section 281 – Rash driving on a public way
- Section 115(2) – Voluntarily causing hurt
- Section 352 – Intentional insult to provoke breach of peace
- Section 324(4) – Mischief causing damage
Additional charges have also been filed under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Ongoing Investigations
Officials have confirmed that the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken based on evidence and statements.
This incident adds to growing concerns about misuse of power and public safety on the roads, especially involving political figures.
