Indore: In a serious case of alleged medical negligence, a doctor at Matram Hospital in Sarvodaya Nagar has been booked for reportedly administering an expired vaccine to a two-and-a-half-month-old girl and assaulting her parents when they questioned the act.
Parents Allege Assault, Threats After Raising Objection
According to the parents’ complaint, the incident occurred late Monday night when they took their daughter for routine immunization. After the vaccination, the father checked the sticker pasted on the child’s file and noticed the vaccine had an expiry date of May 2025.
When the couple objected, the doctor allegedly snatched the file, removed the expiry-date wrapper, and replaced it with another one in an attempt to tamper with evidence, as reported by the Free Press Journal.
The parents further alleged that the doctor and his staff pushed, assaulted, and even threatened them with dire consequences for questioning the expired drug.
Attempt to Settle the Issue Alleged
The doctor reportedly asked the couple to “settle the matter” by offering them money and a refund of the vaccine cost. The parents refused and went straight to the police.
FIR Registered; Investigation Underway
Based on the father’s complaint, police registered a case under sections 125, 125(1), 115, 296, and 351. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the alleged negligence, evidence tampering, and assault.
Infant’s Health Being Monitored
The father told FPJ that he had chosen a private hospital hoping for better care, especially since the baby was born after many years of prayers.
He said the baby cried continuously after the vaccination and appeared lethargic, leaving the parents anxious about possible side effects. They consulted another doctor, who confirmed that the baby is currently stable.
Earlier Similar Incidents Spark Concern
This case comes amid rising concerns over medical negligence involving expired drugs, including a recent incident in Lucknow where four patients were reportedly given expired injections, sparking widespread outrage.
Police continue to probe the Indore case, and further action will be taken based on the investigation findings.
