New Delhi: Delhi currently has 1,396 MBBS seats and 3,017 postgraduate (PG) medical seats, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Smt Anupriya Patel, informed the Lok Sabha.

The information was shared in response to a question raised by BJP MP Shri Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, who sought details on the availability of medical seats in Delhi, the number of streams offered, and whether the government had assessed the adequacy of seats to meet the region’s healthcare needs.

No Separate Study on Required Seats: Health Ministry

Responding to the query, the Minister stated that the seat figures were provided by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and reflect the provisional intake for the academic year 2025–26.

“As informed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), there are a total of 1,396 MBBS seats in medical colleges in Delhi for the Academic Year 2025–26. Further, as of now, there are 3,017 postgraduate seats,” Patel said.

However, the ministry did not indicate that any independent study had been conducted to determine whether the existing number of seats is adequate for Delhi’s population or healthcare requirements.
