Pune, April 6, 2025 — Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis strongly condemned the alleged denial of treatment to a pregnant woman, Tanisha alias Ishwari Bhise (37), at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, calling it “wrong and insensitive.”
Bhise, the wife of BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe’s personal assistant, reportedly lost her life after being denied urgent care due to financial constraints. The incident sparked public outrage and led to protests outside the hospital.
The Allegations
According to Bhise’s family:
- On March 28, during the seventh month of pregnancy, Bhise was rushed to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
- The hospital allegedly demanded a Rs 10 lakh advance for treatment.
- Unable to arrange the money, the family shifted her to another facility.
- She gave birth to twins on March 29, but her condition worsened.
- Bhise passed away on March 31 at a different hospital.
CM’s Response
Fadnavis, who was on an official tour in Pune, met with Bhise’s grieving family and assured:
- A full probe is underway, and appropriate action will follow once the final report is submitted.
- If charges are warranted, an offence will be registered against the responsible parties.
- The CM Relief Fund will cover the medical expenses of the newborn twins, who are currently in the NICU.
He added, “The hospital performs many critical surgeries and does good work, but what happened in this case was deeply troubling. If the administration corrects this, I’ll be happy.”
Protests & Vandalism
The tragic death triggered protests outside the hospital. On Friday, BJP’s women’s wing vandalized the private clinic of a doctor linked to Bhise’s treatment.
Fadnavis distanced himself from the act, stating, “The vandalism was also wrong. The state is handling the issue legally, and such demonstrations should be avoided.”
Hospital Denies Allegation
Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital has denied refusing treatment, but public outrage continues to grow. The government’s final report is awaited to determine legal accountability.
This incident brings into sharp focus the critical issue of healthcare accessibility versus affordability and raises questions about emergency care protocols in private hospitals.
