AI-powered healthcare platform to be piloted at KEM, Rajawadi and Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital to improve patient care and hospital efficiency

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fractal Analytics Limited to launch ‘Vaidya AI’, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered healthcare platform, as a pilot project across select municipal hospitals and dispensaries in Mumbai.

The initiative aims to enhance patient interaction, improve clinical care, reduce administrative workload, and streamline hospital operations. The MoU was signed in the presence of BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide as part of the civic body’s efforts to strengthen public healthcare services through artificial intelligence.

AI Platform to Support Doctors and Healthcare Workers

Developed under the IndiaAI Mission, the Vaidya AI platform is expected to reduce the administrative burden on healthcare professionals, allowing doctors to devote more time to patient care. The platform has been built using contributions to foundational AI models and is designed to function as a clinical support system rather than a replacement for medical professionals.

According to the BMC administration, the AI platform will assist doctors during the initial stages of patient assessment, improve communication with patients speaking different languages, and enhance the efficiency of hospital administration.

Pilot Project to Begin at Three Major BMC Hospitals

As part of the pilot phase, Vaidya AI will be deployed at three major civic hospitals:

  • KEM Hospital
  • Bharatratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar General Hospital, Kandivali
  • Rajawadi Hospital

The platform will also be introduced at selected BMC dispensaries to evaluate its effectiveness across different levels of healthcare delivery.

Focus on Better Patient Experience and Hospital Efficiency

The AI-powered system is expected to improve patient engagement, facilitate multilingual communication, support doctors during preliminary consultations, and optimise hospital workflows.

Municipal officials believe the technology will help address operational challenges in Mumbai’s public healthcare system while enabling healthcare workers to deliver more efficient and patient-centric services.

Fractal Analytics to Provide AI Expertise

Fractal Analytics has previously contributed technology-driven solutions for healthcare and governance across multiple government institutions.

Through this collaboration, the company will support BMC in implementing AI-enabled healthcare solutions aimed at improving service delivery across Mumbai’s municipal health infrastructure.

Senior Officials Attend MoU Signing

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by several senior civic officials, including:

  • Ashwini Bhide, BMC Commissioner
  • Prajakta Verma-Lavangare, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City)
  • Prashant Gaikwad, Deputy Municipal Commissioner
  • Sharad Ughade, Deputy Municipal Commissioner
  • Dr Shailesh Mohite, Director of Medical Education and Major Hospitals

Representing Fractal Analytics were Shrikant Velmakanni, Suraj Amonkar, and Shubhendu Kanade, who joined the civic administration during the signing of the agreement.

The pilot implementation of Vaidya AI marks a significant step in BMC’s efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into public healthcare, with the objective of improving patient care, strengthening clinical support, and enhancing the efficiency of municipal hospitals in Mumbai.
