doctor arrest

Bhopal: A BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery) doctor was arrested by Bhopal police after being found in possession of 577 grams of opium, valued at approximately ₹1.5 lakh in the illicit market.

The arrest occurred in Paan Mandi, a known locality in Bhopal, during a raid conducted by the Hanumanganj police team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rakesh Baghel and station in-charge Inspector Awadhesh Bhadoriya.

Details of the Arrest and Interrogation

  • The contraband was found in a packet, and the accused admitted to sourcing it from unknown individuals in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh.
  • During interrogation, the accused revealed plans to distribute the opium in small quantities to recipients in Bhopal.
  • An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which regulates drug-related offenses in India.

Previous Incidents Involving Medical Professionals

This incident follows a recent case reported in Kolhapur, where four individuals, including an Ayurvedic doctor, were arrested for their involvement in over 50 crimes, primarily house burglaries and marijuana distribution.

The involvement of medical professionals in such illegal activities raises serious concerns about ethical lapses and the need for stricter monitoring and regulation within the profession. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about the supply chain and collaborators.
