Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), New Delhi, has granted recognition to three additional Ayurveda colleges in Madhya Pradesh for the 2024-25 academic session. Across the country, 35 new Ayurveda colleges have been inaugurated this year, including three in Madhya Pradesh.

New Colleges and Expanding Seats

Of the 35 new colleges nationwide, 33 are private institutions, while 2 are government-run. Each government college offers 100 BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) seats. In Madhya Pradesh, the newly recognized colleges include two in Bhopal and one in Dewas.

According to Dr. Rakesh Pandey, spokesperson for the AYUSH Medical Association, Madhya Pradesh now has seven government Ayurveda colleges located in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Indore, Rewa, Burhanpur, and Ujjain, collectively offering over 550 undergraduate seats.

Additionally, the state boasts 27 private Ayurveda colleges with more than 2,400 UG seats, further strengthening the availability of Ayurveda education in the region.

Upcoming Institutions

Looking ahead, 11 more Ayurveda colleges are in the pipeline and expected to open soon in cities including Sagar, Narmadapuram, Shahdol, Dhar, Jhabua, Mandla, Balaghat, Morena, Shujalpur, Sheopur, and Khajuraho.

The growing number of Ayurveda colleges reflects the increasing emphasis on promoting traditional medicine education and expanding healthcare capacity in India.
