Three medical professionals booked for reckless riding, public drinking; incident sparks outrage over road safety violations

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident from Bengaluru, three doctors were arrested after a viral video showed them riding a two-wheeler while consuming alcohol on a busy road, raising serious concerns about public safety and responsible conduct.

Viral Video Captures Dangerous Stunt

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night between Jayadeva Junction and BTM Layout. The video shows three men on a single motorcycle navigating through dense traffic, with the rider allegedly zig-zagging dangerously. The rear pillion rider was seen openly drinking from a liquor bottle in full public view.

Police Take Suo Motu Action

Acting on the viral footage, Mico Layout traffic police registered a case and tracked down the individuals with the help of the vehicle owner. According to police officials, the three doctors confessed to their actions during questioning.

“They had gone to a bar and restaurant to celebrate completing their MS in orthopaedics. One of them carried a half-consumed beer bottle and continued drinking while riding pillion,” a police officer told media reports.

Doctors From Different Institutions

As per reports, the accused doctors are affiliated with multiple institutions, including Sapthagiri Medical College, Vydehi Hospital, and Chamundeshwari Medical College.

The trio was taken to Mico Layout Police Station and later released on bail. They have been booked under several charges, including:

  • Triple riding
  • Negligent and reckless driving
  • Riding without helmets
  • Consumption of alcohol in a public place

Police confirmed that the Karnataka Police Act prohibits drinking in public spaces, and relevant sections have been invoked along with traffic violations.

Public Safety Concerns Raised

Authorities emphasized that such behavior is not only illegal but also highly dangerous, especially on congested urban roads. The reckless act could have resulted in a serious accident, putting both the riders and the public at risk.

The viral video has triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many demanding stricter enforcement of traffic laws and accountability, particularly from professionals entrusted with public responsibility.
