Boost in Madhumehari production and modern pharmacy systems aim to strengthen public healthcare delivery
Gorakhpur: The Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University has been directed to supply Ayurvedic medicines to state-run hospitals across Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step towards strengthening traditional healthcare services in the public sector.
University Speeds Up Preparations for Statewide Supply
Following the directive, the university administration has accelerated preparations to ensure efficient production and distribution of medicines manufactured at its in-house pharmacy. The move is expected to streamline the availability of essential Ayurvedic treatments in government hospitals.
Wide Range of Ayurvedic Medicines to Be Supplied
The university pharmacy produces a variety of commonly used Ayurvedic formulations, including Madhumehari, Ashwagandha, Arjun bark, Triphala, Haritaki, and Vibhitaki powders. These medicines are widely recognised for their natural healing properties and are used to treat conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular issues, digestive disorders, and overall health maintenance.
Surge in Madhumehari Production for Diabetes Care
In response to rising demand, production of Madhumehari has increased significantly—from 60 kilograms to nearly 12 quintals. The university has prioritised this medicine in the initial phase of supply to ensure that patients suffering from diabetes at public Ayurvedic hospitals receive timely treatment.
Officials said that after the first phase, other herbal formulations will be gradually distributed to hospitals across the state, expanding access to traditional therapies.
Modern Machinery and Strict Quality Checks in Place
Vice-Chancellor Dr. K Ramchandra Reddy stated that the production process is supported by modern automated machinery and stringent quality control mechanisms.
He emphasised that the initiative will ensure a consistent supply of safe, effective, and standardised Ayurvedic medicines to government healthcare facilities.
Boost to Rural Healthcare and Employment
The initiative is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery, particularly in rural and remote areas where access to medical services remains limited. By ensuring the direct supply of medicines to hospitals, patients will have better access to affordable and natural treatment options.
Additionally, the expansion of the pharmacy is likely to promote the cultivation of medicinal plants in the region and generate employment opportunities for trained AYUSH practitioners.
The move aligns with the broader push to integrate traditional medicine into mainstream healthcare and enhance the reach of public health services across Uttar Pradesh.
