New Delhi: The Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, has praised the commendable conduct and clinical expertise of two Siddha physicians who stepped in to assist a fellow passenger during a recent flight. Their timely response and professional intervention helped manage a mid-air medical emergency effectively.

Meeting Held to Acknowledge Their Contribution

Secretary Kotecha met Dr. Elavarasan and Dr. Gowtham in New Delhi to personally appreciate their alertness, responsibility, and skill in applying Siddha Varmam techniques. He highlighted that their presence of mind and dedication exemplify the best of traditional medicine practitioners in real-world situations.

Passenger Developed Sudden Giddiness Mid-Flight

During the flight, a passenger unexpectedly experienced severe giddiness. Although the cabin crew administered initial first aid, the passenger’s condition did not stabilize. This prompted an onboard announcement seeking medical assistance, according to information shared by the PIB.

Siddha Varmam Techniques Prove Effective

Responding immediately, Dr. Elavarasan and Dr. Gowtham conducted a quick assessment and applied targeted Varmam stimulation techniques rooted in classical Siddha texts. Within minutes, the passenger showed marked improvement, allowing the situation to be brought under control without further complications.

Ministry Praises Calm and Compassionate Action

The Ayush Secretary commended the physicians for maintaining calm, showing professionalism, and demonstrating compassion during the emergency. He noted that their actions highlight the practical value and supportive role of Siddha Varmam therapy when performed by skilled practitioners.

The incident has brought attention to the need for enhanced public awareness and structured training in Siddha Varmam techniques. According to the Ministry, such traditional therapeutic approaches can significantly contribute to integrative healthcare delivery when appropriately utilized.

In related developments, the Ayush Ministry has continued efforts to strengthen traditional medicine systems through collaborations and global engagements. Recently, the Ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO) jointly hosted an Ambassadors’ Reception ahead of the 2nd Global Summit on Traditional Medicine.

Upcoming Conference on Integrative Approaches

Medical Dialogues previously reported that the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), through the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Bengaluru, is organizing a two-day International Conference on Ayurveda and Integrative Approaches to Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome on 1–2 December 2025. Scheduled at IISc Bengaluru, the conference aligns with the 57th Foundation Day celebrations of CCRAS.
