Kolhapur: Police have arrested four men, including an ayurvedic doctor, for their alleged involvement in over 50 crimes, primarily house break-ins and marijuana distribution.

The investigation began after a recent burglary in Ispurli, where thieves stole gold jewelry worth ₹5 lakh from a house. While tracking the culprits, police uncovered a gang led by 46-year-old Gurudatta Pol, a resident of Jawahar Nagar in Kolhapur city. Pol was apprehended while attempting to sell the stolen jewelry in Kalamba.

Upon interrogation, Gurudatta Pol revealed the involvement of three accomplices: his relative Sanjay Pol, Sanjay’s brother Harish Pol, and another associate, Swapnil Satpute.

“Sanjay Pol, an ayurvedic doctor, had ceased practicing about a year ago due to significant debts. To repay his loans, he joined his relative Gurudatta in criminal activities. Sanjay also involved his brother Harish in the recent Ispurli burglary,” stated Inspector Ravindra Kalamkar of the Kolhapur police crime branch.

The investigation further revealed Gurudatta Pol’s involvement in 52 cases and Satpute’s participation in 22 cases over the past six years. In addition, the ayurvedic doctor, Sanjay, faces charges of robbery and marijuana supply registered at the Mahatma Gandhi police station in Miraj.

Gurudatta Pol works as a scrap collector, while Harish Pol is employed in the construction sector. The arrests have brought attention to the gang’s extensive criminal history and ongoing investigations are underway.
