Golaghat: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the 100-bedded Sarupathar Co-District Civil Hospital in Golaghat district. He also dedicated an oxygen plant, funded by the CSR initiative of Numaligarh Refinery, during a function held in Sarupathar on Monday.
Calling the day significant for Sarupathar residents, CM Sarma highlighted that the ₹15 crore Co-District hospital is equipped with nine outpatient departments, an operation theatre, an emergency ward, a resuscitation room, a special newborn care unit, medicine and pediatric wards, and two labor rooms. He further announced plans to enhance the hospital with more advanced medical facilities.
The oxygen plant, established with support from Numaligarh Refinery’s CSR fund, will bolster the hospital’s capacity to provide critical care in emergencies. CM Sarma also mentioned that an additional 10,000 beneficiaries from the Sarupathar Assembly constituency will be included in healthcare programs, empowering many women in the region.

Sports Infrastructure Development in Sarupathar
CM Sarma also inaugurated an indoor stadium and laid the foundation for a swimming pool in Sarupathar, marking a new phase of infrastructure growth in the area. The indoor stadium, constructed at a cost of ₹2 crore, features two synthetic badminton courts and two table tennis courts. The swimming pool, to be built with ₹75 lakh from Numaligarh Refinery’s CSR fund, is another addition to Sarupathar’s sports facilities.
Updating on the Lovlina Borgohain Sports Complex, CM Sarma stated that its construction is progressing rapidly. He emphasized that these facilities would inspire the younger generation, fostering the development of athletes capable of competing at national and international levels.
He expressed gratitude to the Sarupathar MLA for leading the community in sports initiatives and urged parents to instill a love for sports in their children, citing its benefits for physical and mental health. CM Sarma noted that engaging in sports could help youth maintain robust health and enhance opportunities such as joining the defense forces.

Later, CM Sarma inaugurated a rural stadium at the Golaghat South Development Block, built with ₹2 crore. The event was graced by prominent figures, including MP Kakakhya Prasad Tasa, MLA Biswajit Phukan, CGM NRL Kajal Saikia, Olympian Lovlina Borgohain, Commonwealth medalist Nayanmoni Saikia, international boxer Jamuna Boro, and other dignitaries.
