Doctor from Arunachal Pradesh, Wife, Son and Medical Student Friend Die in Tragic Road Accident
A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four people, including a doctor from Arunachal Pradesh and two young medical students, after their vehicle crashed into a parked container truck at Lalmati under Khetri Police Station limits near Guwahati on Friday morning.
According to police officials, the victims were travelling from Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati when the accident occurred at around 11 a.m. The vehicle, bearing an Arunachal Pradesh registration number, reportedly collided with a stationary container truck at high speed.
The deceased have been identified as a 55-year-old doctor from Upper Siang district, his 52-year-old wife who worked with Arunachal Pradesh’s Food and Civil Supplies Department, their 22-year-old son, and his friend from West Kameng district. The two young men were pursuing their medical education at a private medical college in Tripura.
Vehicle Was Reportedly Travelling Above 100 Kmph
Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain stated that preliminary findings suggest the vehicle was travelling at more than 100 kmph at the time of the collision.
“According to information, they started their journey at 6 a.m. from Itanagar and had booked accommodation at Arunachal Bhawan in Rupnagar. Site examination revealed that the driver did not apply brakes before the impact. Eyewitnesses indicated that the vehicle was travelling at over 100 kmph,” Jain said.
Police investigators noted that there were no visible signs of braking or attempts to avoid the collision before the car rammed into the parked truck.
Driver Fatigue Suspected as Possible Cause
Officials suspect driver fatigue may have played a role in the fatal accident. According to police, the doctor had been driving for several hours and may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.
Jain stated that the vehicle appeared to drift sideways before crashing into the truck, indicating that the driver may not have been fully alert in the moments leading up to the collision.
An official investigation has been launched to determine the exact sequence of events and establish the precise cause of the crash.
Bodies Sent for Post-Mortem Examination
Khetri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tanmoy Nath confirmed that the family was travelling to Guwahati to attend a family-related engagement when the accident occurred.
“The bodies have been shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination,” Nath said.
Similar Fatal Accident Involving Doctor Couple Reported Earlier
The incident comes months after another tragic road accident involving a doctor couple, who lost their lives when their car collided with a parked container truck near a toll plaza in Bihar’s Vaishali district.
The latest tragedy has once again raised concerns about highway safety, driver fatigue during long-distance travel, and the dangers posed by stationary heavy vehicles parked along roadways.
