New Delhi: The first-ever International Conference of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) titled “Advancements of Research & Global Opportunities for Holistic Ayurveda” (AROHA-2024) was inaugurated by Chief Justice of India, Dr. Justice D Y Chandrachud. The conference aims to enhance Ayurveda’s global recognition and explore its potential in holistic healthcare. Alongside him, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, also participates in the inaugural ceremony. The event celebrates AIIA’s eighth foundation day, showcasing the institute’s remarkable progress in promoting research-based Ayurveda. Chief Justice Chandrachud expresses his privilege to attend the conference and highlights the significance of Ayurveda in holistic wellness. The CJI Chandrachud noted, “Rooted in generational family wisdom, Ayurveda offers valuable insights into integrated well-being.” He emphasised the importance of addressing not just specific ailments but also overall wellness through various practices, including nutrition, meditation, and yoga. The launch of the Ayush Research Portal signifies a notable advancement in Ayurvedic research and education.
During his address, Minister Jadhav emphasised the importance of integrating traditional wisdom with modern science, underscoring the conference’s role in promoting holistic healthcare solutions. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enhancing Ayurveda’s global stature and acknowledged the growing adoption of Ayurvedic practices. Jadhav expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Ministry of Ayush and committed to fulfilling its aspirations under the Prime Minister’s vision.
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, announced a commitment to developing five key Ayurvedic botanicals over the next five years. He emphasised the Ministry’s goal of establishing benchmarks that meet globally accepted standards for traditional medicine. Dr. Shyama Kuruvilla, Director of the Global Traditional Medicine Centre at WHO, commended the Indian government’s leadership in promoting traditional medicine. She stated, “This leadership is having a global impact,” recognizing India’s role in shaping the discourse on traditional medicine at international forums like G20 and BRICS.
AROHA-2024 features both in-person and virtual participation, offering a platform for discussions on various topics, including quality control, standardisation, diagnosis, drug delivery, and evidence-based understanding of Ayurveda. The agenda includes three days of workshops, 15 scientific sessions, and the presentation of over 400 research papers. Additionally, the conference hosted an exhibition showcasing stalls from leading brands and institutions, providing insights into herbal products, wellness solutions, Ayurvedic treatments, research innovations, and educational opportunities. The All India Institute of Ayurveda enjoys a global presence, collaborating with over 74 countries and partnering with esteemed organizations such as the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Western Sydney University.
