Principals and Superintendents Transferred to Streamline Healthcare Administration Across State
Vijayawada: In a decisive step towards strengthening the administrative framework of government medical institutions, the Andhra Pradesh government has issued major transfer orders, appointing several Additional Directors of Medical Education (ADMEs) as Principals of Government Medical Colleges and Superintendents of Teaching Hospitals.
The reshuffle, ordered by Special Chief Secretary MT Krishna Babu, is part of a broader restructuring effort under the Director of Medical Education (DME) to boost efficiency and coordination in the state’s healthcare and medical education sectors.
Key Transfers and Appointments
- Dr S Manikya Rao, formerly Principal of GMC Anantapur, has been appointed Superintendent of Government General Hospital (GGH), Ongole.
- Dr KSS Venkateswara Rao, ex-Superintendent of GGH Anantapur, will now serve as Superintendent of GGH Kadapa.
- Dr A Yedukondala Rao, Principal of GMC Ongole, takes over as Principal of Siddhartha Medical College (SMC), Vijayawada.
- Dr P Ashok Kumar, previous SMC Principal, will now serve as Principal of GMC Ongole.
Promotions to Senior Roles
- Dr I Vani, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Andhra Medical College (AMC), Visakhapatnam, has been promoted to ADME and Superintendent of King George Hospital (KGH). She replaces Dr Sivanand, Professor of Orthopaedics, who held the post on a full additional charge.
- Dr KVV Satyanarayana, Professor of Neurosurgery at Guntur Medical College, has been promoted as ADME and Principal of GMC Anantapur.
Backdrop: Resistance to Promotions
This administrative shake-up comes amid ongoing concerns in the health department. As previously reported, nearly 59% of eligible doctors declined promotions to the role of District Coordinators of Health Services (DCHS), prompting Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav to order a probe.
