Aligarh: In a major step towards strengthening emergency healthcare services, the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH) at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has officially launched the ‘Code Blue’ Emergency Response System at its Trauma Centre.
The initiative was inaugurated by Prof. M. Mohsin Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AMU, along with Prof. Habib Raza, Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS), in the presence of senior faculty members and hospital staff.
Rapid Response for Life-Threatening Emergencies
‘Code Blue’ is a hospital emergency protocol designed to ensure immediate medical intervention during cardiac or respiratory arrest and other life-threatening situations. Upon activation, a specialized resuscitation team — including doctors, nurses, and paramedics — responds with life-saving equipment such as defibrillators, oxygen systems, and emergency medications to perform CPR and other critical procedures.
At the launch event, Prof. M. Mohsin Khan highlighted that the new system will ensure timely and efficient care for critically ill patients. He reiterated AMU’s commitment to upgrading healthcare infrastructure and providing comprehensive support to patients and their families.
Enhanced Coordination and Communication
Speaking to India Education Diary, Prof. Habib Raza said the Code Blue system will significantly improve hospital communication, coordination, and response speed in emergencies.
“Our teams are trained to act within seconds — every moment counts when a patient’s heart or breathing stops,” he stated.
Dr. Shahna Ali, from the Department of Anaesthesiology, and her team demonstrated the Standard Operating Protocol (SOP) for Code Blue activation to ensure all staff are well-versed in the process.
An amplifier-based announcement system has also been installed in the triage area, allowing real-time coordination between the Casualty Medical Officer and the Help Desk, thereby reducing response times and enhancing operational efficiency.
Commitment to Continuous Training
To maintain preparedness, JNMCH will conduct regular mock drills and hands-on training sessions for doctors, nurses, and support staff. This ongoing training initiative underscores AMU’s dedication to patient safety, emergency preparedness, and high-quality healthcare.
The event was attended by several distinguished faculty members, including Prof. S. Amjad Ali Rizvi (MS), Dr. M. Saquib (DMS Trauma), Prof. M. Wasim Ali (Proctor), Prof. Mohammad Shameem, Prof. Hammad Usmani, Prof. Khawaja Zafar Saifullah, Prof. Fazlur Rehman, Dr. Naresh Kumar Sharma, and Dr. Sajjad Husain, among others.
