AIIMS team to visit Tripura for assessment and guidance on June 7-8
The Tripura government is gearing up to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in the state by partnering with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, a senior official announced on Wednesday.
A four-member delegation from AIIMS New Delhi, led by Director Dr. M. Srinivas, is scheduled to visit Tripura on June 7 for a two-day assessment and consultation tour. During their visit, the team will hold discussions with state authorities, including Chief Minister Manik Saha.
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “We are keen to enhance collaboration with AIIMS-New Delhi for research, development and hospital management to improve overall healthcare in the state.”
The AIIMS delegation will inspect key health institutions such as GBP Hospital and Agartala Medical College (AGMC), engaging with stakeholders to evaluate existing facilities and identify areas for improvement.
Deputy Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital, Kanak Chowdhury, emphasized the importance of the visit. “With about 2,000 patients visiting our outpatient department daily and seven super-speciality departments already operational—including neurosurgery and urology—the AIIMS team’s guidance will be invaluable for upgrading healthcare services.”
Chowdhury added that the partnership would also benefit Tripura’s young healthcare professionals by providing access to AIIMS expertise and support.
Earlier, Medical Dialogues reported that the Tripura government has been actively strengthening its healthcare workforce, recruiting 153 nursing staff in 2024 and initiating recruitment for an additional 332 nurses, including 100 on a contractual basis. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha confirmed that necessary financial allocations have been secured to support these efforts.
This collaboration with AIIMS Delhi marks a significant step toward elevating Tripura’s healthcare standards through expert guidance, improved infrastructure, and enhanced medical education and research.
