26-Year-Old Resident Doctor Dies After Drowning in Narmada Canal in Gujarat
Third-year dermatology resident at GMERS Medical College reportedly drowned while on an outing with two friends near Bhimpura village.
A 26-year-old resident doctor at GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Gotri, reportedly drowned in a Narmada Canal near Bhimpura village on Monday morning while on an outing with two friends.
The deceased, a native of Khambhat, was a third-year resident pursuing dermatology at GMERS Medical College and Hospital.
Resident Doctor Slipped and Fell Into Canal
According to hospital authorities, the resident doctor had gone to the canal with two friends when he reportedly slipped and fell into the water. His friends raised an alarm, following which efforts were made to locate him.
His body was eventually fished out of the canal and taken to the hospital.
GMERS Medical College and Hospital Superintendent Dr Anup Chandnani confirmed the incident. “The resident doctor was brought dead to the hospital. He was in the third year of his dermatology course,” he said.
According to TOI, Chandnani added, “It was his birthday, and he had gone out with two of his friends for an outing. Both his friends are not from our institute.”
Postmortem Conducted, Body Handed Over to Family
A postmortem examination was conducted at the hospital following the incident. After completion of the formalities, his body was handed over to his parents.
Upon learning of the incident, family members of the deceased doctor rushed to Gotri Hospital. The incident also left the medical community at the hospital mourning the sudden death of the young resident doctor.
