Court Grants Six-Day Police Remand for Kartik Patel
Ahmedabad: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Ahmedabad City Police secured a six-day remand for Kartik Jasu Manilal Patel, the 60-year-old chairman of Ahmedabad Bariatrics and Cosmetics Pvt Ltd, the parent company of Khyati Multispeciality Hospital. Patel was arrested on Tuesday from Sabarmati Central Jail in connection with a racket involving fraudulent PMJAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) cards issued to ineligible individuals.

Allegations of Fraud and Criminal Conspiracy
The latest arrest is linked to an FIR filed on December 17, 2024, against nine individuals accused of conspiracy, forgery, and criminal breach of trust in fraudulently approving PMJAY cards. Patel was initially arrested on January 18 and has been lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail for his alleged role in three cases related to medical malpractice under the PMJAY scheme.
Unnecessary Surgeries and Patient Deaths
The case also involves the deaths of two PMJAY beneficiaries, Mahesh Girdhar Barot (52) and Nagar Moti Senma (75), from Borisana village in Mehsana district. Both patients died on November 11, 2024, after undergoing what an expert committee from the health department deemed as “completely unnecessary” angioplasty surgeries at Khyati Multispeciality Hospital.
With the new remand, authorities are intensifying their investigation into Patel’s role in the fraudulent activities surrounding the PMJAY scheme.
