Hyderabad: A 23-year-old doctor was allegedly assaulted, blackmailed, and extorted by a man he met on a dating platform. The incident came to light after the victim lodged a complaint with Madhapur police, leading to the registration of a case and the launch of an investigation.

Assault and Threats During Meeting

According to the complaint, the doctor had been chatting with the accused for nearly two weeks on the dating app Grindr before agreeing to meet. On the evening of September 21, he went to a PG accommodation in Ayyappa Society where the accused allegedly tried to force him into sexual activity. When the victim refused, the accused became violent, slapping and punching him. He also forcibly took the doctor’s father’s phone number and threatened to reveal his sexual orientation unless he paid money.

Extortion and Continued Harassment

Fearing exposure, the doctor transferred ₹5,000 to the accused. However, the harassment did not end there. The accused continued to stalk him, demanded more money, and even followed him to the private hospital where he works, threatening to create a public scene and contact his family. The situation worsened when the accused allegedly barged into the doctor’s flat, took ₹3,000 from his wallet, and verbally and physically abused him before leaving.

Case Registered Under BNS

On Monday night, police registered a case against the accused under sections 308(5) (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), reports TOI.

Police Probe Underway

Madhapur police are now analyzing UPI transaction details shared by the victim to trace the suspect. “We have requested the PG booking details in Ayyappa Society and also sought information from Grindr. CCTV footage from key locations is being examined to identify the perpetrator,” an official told TOI.
