Amravati-based BAMS doctor found unresponsive at home; post-mortem and viscera reports awaited to establish exact cause of death
A 22-year-old BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) doctor was found dead at his residence in Amravati, Maharashtra, with his family suspecting that excessive use of medicines may have contributed to his death.
The young doctor had reportedly been self-medicating with certain medicines in an attempt to lighten his complexion, according to his family. However, the exact circumstances and cause of death have not yet been conclusively established.
Doctor Found Unresponsive in Room
The deceased had completed his BAMS degree from Nashik and was working as an intern at a hospital in Amravati.
According to his family, he had dinner with them on the night before the incident and later went to his room to sleep.
The following morning, when he did not come out of his room for a considerable period, family members opened the door and found him unresponsive. He was reportedly lying face down, with blood noticed around his eyes.
Family Suspects Excessive Medicine Use
According to the family, the doctor had a history of epilepsy since childhood and had been taking medicines on his own.
The family alleged that he was also using certain medicines in an attempt to lighten his complexion. They suspect that excessive use or a possible overdose of these medicines may have contributed to his death.
However, this remains an allegation by the family and has not been established as the cause of death.
Police Begin Investigation
After being informed, police reached the residence and took the body for examination.
An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered at Valgaon Police Station based on a complaint filed by the doctor’s parents.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, including the medicines the doctor may have been taking before the incident.
Viscera Report Awaited
The post-mortem findings are being examined for possible asphyxiation, heart attack or other causes of death.
The exact cause of death is expected to become clear after the viscera examination and report. Until those findings are available, no definitive conclusion can be drawn regarding whether medicine overdose played a role in the death.
Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
