Dehradun: Chaos prevailed at the emergency ward of Doon Medical College and Hospital after two groups of intoxicated men allegedly clashed and assaulted doctors and hospital staff, creating panic within the premises late at night.
Intoxicated Group Storms Emergency Area
According to police, a large group of intoxicated men entered the emergency ward and allegedly assaulted a patient. The sudden violence disrupted hospital functioning and created fear among patients, attendants, and staff present at the time.
Doctors and Staff Targeted During Intervention
When doctors and hospital staff attempted to intervene and stop the assault, they were allegedly attacked by the group. Security guards and ward boys who rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion were also assaulted during the incident.
Temporary Suspension of Emergency Services
Following the attack, doctors expressed anger and concern over their safety and staged a brief protest. Emergency services were temporarily halted as a mark of protest, with staff demanding improved security arrangements within the hospital premises. Services were later resumed.
Details of the Incident Emerge
As per reports, the incident took place late Saturday night when a man identified as Shankey Kukreja arrived at the hospital along with several associates. After assaulting a patient inside the emergency ward, they allegedly attacked medical staff who tried to intervene and later fled the scene in multiple vehicles.
Complaint Filed by Medical Officer
Emergency Medical Officer Samridhi Raiwani lodged a formal complaint with the police regarding the incident. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused individuals for assault and intimidation.
Police Register Case Under Strict Laws
Investigating officer ASI Rajesh Shah stated that the motive behind the violence is still unclear, though preliminary inputs suggest personal animosity. The case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Uttarakhand Medicare Service Persons and Institutions Act for violence against healthcare workers.
Investigation Underway to Trace Accused
Police confirmed that several security guards and ward boys were injured during the incident. An investigation is currently underway, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend all those involved in the attack.
