Locals Demand Accountability After Cancer Diagnosis
Jamshedpur: Residents of Bhilai Pahadi staged a massive protest outside Awadh Dental College on Tuesday, accusing the institution of medical negligence in the treatment of 65-year-old Buddheshwar Mahali.
According to the villagers, Mahali had visited the college seeking relief from severe tooth pain. Despite receiving treatment, his condition did not improve, prompting him to return for further consultation. However, the hospital allegedly refused to provide additional care and instead advised him to travel to Mumbai for advanced treatment—a cost he could not afford.
Mahali later sought help at MTHMH, where doctors diagnosed him with mouth cancer, sparking outrage among locals.
Protesters Demand Compensation
Angry villagers demanded that Awadh Dental College cover the full cost of Mahali’s treatment. However, the institution reportedly offered only ₹5,000, which further fueled tensions.
Police from MGM station arrived at the scene to control the situation, but the protest continued, with locals calling for stricter action against the college.
“This is not just one case; many people suffer due to poor medical facilities here. Authorities must step in and ensure accountability,” said a protester.
The agitation is expected to persist until a resolution is reached.
