Vasai: Manikpur police have registered an FIR against Dr. Dharmendra Dubey, the chief doctor at Breath Care Hospital in Vasai (West), for culpable homicide not amounting to murder following the death of a patient in March 2024.

Rupesh Gupta, 27, was admitted to the hospital on March 18, 2024, after complaining of severe chest pain. Despite receiving treatment, Gupta passed away, leading his family to allege medical negligence.

An investigation by the Palghar district surgeon’s office examined the in-patient department records and hospital documents. The final report, submitted to Manikpur police, highlighted discrepancies in Gupta’s care. It noted that Dr. Dubey did not personally attend to the patient, leaving treatment to Resident Medical Officers (RMOs).

The report further stated that CCTV footage showed Gupta being transported to the pathology lab for a scan without oxygen support, raising concerns about improper medical protocols.

Dr. Dubey has declined to comment on the case, and police are continuing their investigation.

The incident has reignited discussions about accountability and standards in private healthcare facilities.
