CM Yogi Adityanath Pushes for Integrated Ayush Ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to roll out the “Ayush Health and Wellness Policy-2026” with the aim of strengthening traditional healthcare services and transforming the state into a major destination for wellness and healing tourism.

During a review meeting of the Ayush Department, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to improve coordination between traditional systems such as Ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy and modern healthcare facilities. The initiative is expected to create a comprehensive wellness ecosystem that not only enhances healthcare delivery but also promotes investment, employment generation and research in the Ayush sector.

Varanasi, Ayodhya and Mathura Identified as Key Wellness Tourism Hubs

Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s cultural and spiritual heritage, the Chief Minister said cities including Varanasi, Ayodhya and Mathura have strong potential to emerge as major wellness and healing tourism destinations centred around traditional Indian medicine systems.

The state government plans to promote wellness tourism by integrating Ayush therapies, yoga centres and holistic healthcare services with spiritual tourism circuits.

Uttar Pradesh Currently Has Nearly 4,000 Ayush Healthcare Units

Officials informed the Chief Minister that Uttar Pradesh currently has:

  • 3,953 Ayush healthcare units
  • 1,034 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs
  • 225 yoga wellness centres
  • 19 Ayush medical colleges

The government is planning a phased expansion of these facilities through public-private partnership (PPP) models.

New Wellness Centres and 100-Bed Integrated Institutes Planned

Under the proposed policy, the state government plans to establish modern wellness centres, integrated 100-bed treatment and training institutes, digital healthcare facilities and specialised centres focused on research, innovation and skill development in Ayush systems.

To attract private investment, the policy is expected to offer several incentives, including:

  • Investment subsidies
  • Operational incentives
  • Interest subsidies
  • Stamp duty concessions
  • Employment-linked benefits

Integrated Ayush Colleges to be Set Up in Five Cities

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also directed officials to speed up the establishment of integrated Ayush colleges in:

  • Mirzapur
  • Gonda
  • Meerut
  • Agra
  • Basti

He further instructed the department to strengthen OPD services, ensure adequate medicine supply and promote traditional therapies such as Panchakarma across Ayush institutions statewide.

Focus on Research and Innovation at Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Ayush University

The meeting also reviewed research and innovation initiatives at Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Ayush University. The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the recruitment of permanent faculty members and develop the university into a premier centre for Ayush education, traditional medicine research and innovation.
