Family Alleges No Doctor Attended Patient Throughout the Night
A major controversy has erupted in Jharkhand after a 25-year-old pregnant woman allegedly suffered a miscarriage due to delayed medical treatment at the Jamtara Sadar Hospital. Following the incident, district authorities have ordered an inquiry into the matter.
According to the woman’s family, she was rushed to the hospital around 10 pm on Saturday after suffering heavy abdominal bleeding. The woman, a resident of Kelahi village under Mihijam police station limits, was admitted to the hospital and allotted a bed. However, the family alleged that no doctor attended to her during the entire night despite her worsening condition.
The relatives further claimed that nursing staff were unable to administer injections or medicines without a doctor’s prescription, leaving the patient without critical medical intervention for several hours. By Sunday morning, the bleeding had reportedly intensified, raising serious concerns over emergency healthcare services at the hospital.
Family Shifts Woman to Private Clinic After Alleged Delay
The family alleged that even by 7 am on Sunday, no doctor had arrived to provide treatment. As her condition deteriorated further, they shifted her to a private clinic in Mihijam, where doctors reportedly performed an abortion procedure. The woman’s condition was later stated to be critical.
The incident has triggered outrage among local residents and social activists, who accused the healthcare system of negligence and questioned the availability of emergency medical services in the district.
Hospital Administration Orders Inquiry Into Incident
Speaking on the matter, Jamtara Civil Surgeon Dr Shiv Prasad Mishra said that an inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to Mishra, preliminary findings suggest that the woman’s family allegedly refused treatment from the available male doctor and insisted on being treated only by a female doctor. He added that appropriate action would be taken against anyone found responsible after the investigation is completed.
Social Activists Raise Questions Over Healthcare Infrastructure
Local social activists Aqib Javed Khan and Samanat Marandi criticised the healthcare system in Jamtara and blamed the alleged delay in treatment for the miscarriage.
They questioned the condition of emergency medical facilities at the district hospital and alleged that the hospital continues to suffer from inadequate infrastructure and shortage of doctors despite the district being represented by Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over maternal healthcare services and emergency medical response in government hospitals across rural districts.
