Lucknow: On Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Brajesh Pathak issued strict instructions to the Doctors of Government Hospital and Government Aided Hospital to stop the habit of prescribing branded medicines to the patients instead of the generic. Taking serious note of the complaints received against the doctors who have the habit of prescribing branded medicine to be purchased from outside by the patients, the Medical and Health Department of the state has issued clear instructions to all doctors that they will not write the name of the brand of the medicine.The doctors have been advised to write the salt or the chemical composition of the medicine in place of the brand name. The instructions further stated that if a doctor is caught prescribing a branded medicine, action will be taken against them.

Also, the Uttar Pradesh Health Ministry has instructed the government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh to display the list of medicines available in the hospitals. The mandate was issued by Amit Mohan Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health. Doctors of government hospitals have also been asked not to prescribe medicines which will have to be purchased from the outside by the patients at any cost which in turn will ensure that the Jan Aushadhi Kendra’s are operated in a better way.
