Modern 30-Bed Facility to Boost ESI Healthcare Services; Expandable to 100 Beds

SIRMAUR (HIMACHAL PRADESH): Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, is set to inaugurate the newly built 30-bedded ESIC Hospital at Kala Amb in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district on May 31, 2025. The hospital, designed for future expansion to a 100-bed capacity, marks a significant advancement in healthcare infrastructure for Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) beneficiaries in the region.

Special Recognition for Construction Workers

In a unique gesture, Dr. Mandaviya will also felicitate the construction workers who played a key role in building the hospital. The facility was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore and is expected to serve over 1 lakh beneficiaries from Sirmaur and adjoining districts.

Comprehensive Medical Services and Infrastructure

Approved by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in 2019, the hospital’s construction commenced on March 28, 2022. The state-of-the-art G+2 building spans 13,532.77 square meters, with an additional 2,094.74 square meters allocated for staff quarters and 65.79 square meters for auxiliary facilities — making for a total built-up area of 16,293.30 square meters.

The hospital will house essential departments including General Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, and Dental services. It will be equipped with modern amenities such as modular operation theatres, a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), and a Medical Gas Pipeline System. Both outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) care will be available, ensuring well-rounded medical support for ESI beneficiaries.

Boost to Regional ESI Coverage

Himachal Pradesh currently has around 4.10 lakh insured persons under the ESI scheme, with over 15 lakh people benefiting from its various services. These include medical and cash benefits delivered through 12 Branch Offices, one DCBO, and 17 state-run dispensaries. For secondary care, the state hosts a 100-bedded ESIC Model Hospital in Katha (Baddi), while advanced treatments are facilitated through 28 empanelled hospitals for super speciality care and 64 for secondary care under the Directorate of Health Services.

The inauguration of the Kala Amb ESIC Hospital is expected to significantly reduce the burden on existing healthcare facilities and improve access to quality medical care for ESI beneficiaries in the state.
