Tezpur: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda inaugurated significant healthcare facilities in Assam during his visit to the region, marking a boost in medical services for the Northeast. His itinerary included the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Mangaldai District Civil Hospital, and AIIMS Guwahati.

Key Highlights of the Visit

  1. Inauguration of Library and Informatics Centre at LGBRIMH
    • Shri Nadda unveiled the new Library and Informatics Centre at LGBRIMH, Tezpur.
    • He emphasized the importance of expanding super specialty departments to cater to the region’s healthcare needs.
    • The Union Minister participated in a Board of Governors meeting alongside Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Health Minister Shri Ashok Singhal.
  2. Foundation Stone for Critical Care Block at Mangaldai Civil Hospital
    • A 50-bedded Critical Care Block (CCB) was announced at Mangaldai Civil Hospital, Darrang district.
    • Funded under the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), the project will cost ₹23.75 crore and improve access to advanced medical care.
    • Shri Nadda highlighted that cancer treatment facilities in the region are reducing the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state.
  3. Cancer Care Initiatives in Darrang
    • Shri Nadda inspected ongoing cancer treatment projects, including those under Tata Trusts.
    • He praised the development of local cancer care facilities, enabling residents to access treatment within Assam.
  4. Inspection of AIIMS Guwahati
    • The Union Minister visited the AIIMS Guwahati campus to review its progress.
    • He planted a sapling and discussed activities and construction updates with Dr. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, and other senior officials.
