New Delhi : The Union Budget 2023 has proposed to set up 157 new nursing colleges across the country which gave ample indication of the shift of Union Government policy from Medical Colleges to Nursing Colleges. The announcement of setting up of 157 nursing college has been hailed by the healthcare experts which termed the move as the one which would strengthen the talent pool in the medical sector. The previous budgets have emphasized on the medical fraternity by adding the MBBS seats and PG seats. The setting up of new nursing colleges will reduce the shortfall in the existing strength of the nursing staff in the country though the biggest challenge would be to retain well qualified nurses from moving abroad where the work condition and the remuneration are better than India.
