Mumbai:
The Maharashtra state branch of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) celebrated its 75th anniversary at LTMG Hospital, Sion, on Thursday, commemorating decades of service, advocacy, and professional development in the nursing sector.
While the national body was founded in 1908 at JJ Hospital, the state chapter was established in 1950. The platinum jubilee event featured a vibrant line-up of activities including a keynote address, motivational talks, a quiz competition, and an awards ceremony.
Lifetime Achievement Honours and Institutional Felicitations
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Durga Mehta, former president of the TNAI, for her contributions to nursing and healthcare leadership.
Institutions associated with the organization for over 25 years, along with former office bearers, were also honoured during the celebration.
A Voice for Nurses Across Maharashtra
“TNAI Maharashtra has consistently campaigned for fair wages, a safe working environment, and professional dignity for nurses and midwives,” said Dr Deepali Umale, spokesperson for the association. “We have also contributed to nursing education through seminars and workshops, while leading initiatives in maternal-child health and immunization efforts.”
She added that TNAI has proudly represented the Indian nursing community on both national and international platforms, ensuring that the voices of nurses are heard and respected.
A Message of Recognition
The event concluded with a powerful message to the nursing community: they are the unseen strength present during life’s most fragile moments—a tribute to their unwavering commitment to care.
