Hyderabad: The much-anticipated launch of the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences at Sanathnagar has been postponed once again and is now tentatively scheduled for June 2, 2026, aligning with Telangana Formation Day celebrations.

Pending Works Push Inauguration Beyond Ugadi

The hospital was initially slated to be inaugurated on Ugadi (March 19), but delays in construction, equipment installation, and staffing arrangements forced authorities to defer the opening.

Officials from the State Health Department confirmed that the government is now planning to inaugurate multiple projects under its 99-day action plan, with TIMS Sanathnagar expected to be part of the announcements on June 2.

450 Healthcare Staff to Be Deployed for Operations

To ensure smooth functioning after launch, around 450 healthcare personnel, including doctors, nurses, technicians, and pharmacists, will be deployed temporarily from various government hospitals.

A senior official indicated that nearly one-third of the deployed workforce will be doctors, while the remaining will include nurses and paramedical staff, with nurses forming the largest share.

Specialists Drawn from Major Hyderabad Hospitals

Medical specialists have been sourced from leading state-run institutions such as Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Niloufer Hospital, and ENT Hospital, among others.

This temporary staffing arrangement aims to operationalise the facility until permanent recruitment is completed.

Key Step to Reduce Burden on Hyderabad Hospitals

The Sanathnagar facility is a crucial part of Telangana’s broader plan to expand super-speciality healthcare services and ease the patient load on major hospitals in Hyderabad.

In addition, two more TIMS hospitals are currently under construction in Alwal and LB Nagar, which will cater to the healthcare needs of northern and eastern parts of the city.

Multiple Delays Raise Concerns Over Project Timeline

The project has faced repeated delays due to incomplete infrastructure, pending equipment setup, and manpower challenges, raising concerns about execution timelines.

However, officials remain optimistic that the hospital will be fully or partially operational by early June.

June 2 Launch Likely Alongside Major State Announcements

With the Telangana government planning a series of inaugurations on Formation Day, the opening of TIMS Sanathnagar is expected to be a key highlight.

If completed on schedule, the facility could significantly boost public healthcare capacity and improve access to specialised treatment across Hyderabad.
