Hyderabad – With major government medical colleges in Telangana grappling with a shortage of senior faculty, the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA) has appealed to Health Minister Damodar Rajnarsimha to lift the ongoing ban on transfers for professor-level posts.
In a representation submitted on Wednesday, the association highlighted critical vacancies at Osmania Medical College, Gandhi Medical College, Kakatiya Medical College, and Government Medical College Nizamabad. It urged the government to allow inter-college transfers of eligible and willing senior faculty to fill the sanctioned but unoccupied positions.
The TGGDA stated that the existing ban is hindering both postgraduate medical education and patient care, as the lack of professors is stretching the academic and clinical capacities of these key institutions. “Despite availability of experienced faculty in peripheral areas, sanctioned posts in premier colleges remain vacant,” said TGGDA President Dr. B. Narahari, in a letter co-signed by Dr. Lalu Prasad Rathod (secretary-general) and Dr. Mohd Khaja Raufudin (treasurer).
Importantly, the association pointed out that lifting the ban would not place any additional financial burden on the government since these are already approved posts.
They also emphasized that permitting such transfers would reallocate faculty more equitably across the state, easing the pressure on overburdened medical educators who currently juggle both teaching and service roles.
“This move will help strengthen our academic institutions and simultaneously enhance healthcare service delivery to the public,” the association concluded.
