Jajpur, Odisha: Tensions flared at a government-run hospital in Jajpur town after the death of a patient, with relatives alleging medical negligence. The grieving family staged a protest by positioning the body of 55-year-old Anita Rout outside the hospital’s emergency unit.

Allegations of Negligence

  • Anita Rout, a resident of Danagadi, was admitted earlier in the day with severe breathing difficulties due to a heart condition.
  • Family members claimed that medical staff failed to provide timely treatment.
  • A relative stated: “The doctor asked us to bring an oxygen cylinder. I brought it, but oxygen was not administered immediately. She became unconscious and later passed away.”

Hospital’s Response & Investigation

  • Jajpur ADMO Nagendra Mohapatra confirmed that an official inquiry will be conducted.
  • The probe will determine whether negligence or other factors contributed to the death.
