A 32-year-old doctor posted at a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Odisha’s Ganjam district has been arrested following allegations of financial exploitation, breach of trust, and criminal intimidation by a woman with whom he was allegedly in a long-term relationship.

Relationship Began Through Social Media in 2014

According to police officials, the accused doctor, who serves as a general physician at the Dengausta Primary Health Centre in Ganjam district, first came into contact with the complainant through social media in 2014. The woman, who was married but reportedly living separately from her husband due to personal disputes, later entered into a consensual relationship with the doctor.

Dubai Trip Led to Dispute

As per the complaint, the two travelled to Dubai earlier this year, with the woman allegedly bearing the expenses of the trip. During their stay abroad, the doctor reportedly informed her that he no longer wished to continue the relationship.

The woman subsequently demanded that the doctor return the money she had allegedly spent on him. She also sought the return of gold jewellery that she claimed had been gifted to him during the course of their relationship.

Allegations of Refusal and Threats

The complainant alleged that the doctor refused to return the money and valuables and further threatened her with serious consequences when she pressed for their return.

Following the allegations, the woman approached the Airfield Police Station and lodged a formal complaint. Based on her statement, police registered a case and arrested the doctor on Monday. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Police Probe Continues

Authorities are examining the financial transactions and other evidence related to the allegations. Police officials have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the charges filed against the accused doctor.

The incident has drawn attention due to the serious nature of the allegations involving a government healthcare professional. Investigators are expected to record statements from both parties and review supporting evidence as part of the ongoing probe.

Similar Incident Reported Earlier

In a separate case reported earlier, an Ayurveda practitioner working at a private hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad was arrested by the Nigdi police for allegedly molesting a 37-year-old woman patient under the pretext of conducting a medical examination.
