In a significant boost to Telangana’s public healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the completion of upcoming multispecialty hospitals in Warangal and Hyderabad will add 10,000 new beds to the state’s health system.

Massive Expansion in Public Healthcare Capacity

Speaking during the Question Hour in the state assembly, the Chief Minister revealed that the government is accelerating the development of key healthcare projects, including hospitals under the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS).

He also confirmed that a new Osmania Hospital is being constructed in Goshamahal, Hyderabad, over 30 acres with an estimated cost of ₹3,000 crore. The addition of these facilities is expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare for patients across the state.

New Portal for NRI Doctors to Volunteer

In a move aimed at strengthening medical services, the government is developing a dedicated online platform to enable non-resident Telangana doctors to register and offer voluntary services during their visits to India.

This initiative is expected to bridge gaps in specialist availability and bring global medical expertise to local hospitals.

Aarogyasri Coverage Doubled, ₹4,500 Crore Spent

Highlighting the government’s focus on healthcare for the underprivileged, CM Reddy stated that the insurance coverage under the Aarogyasri Scheme has been doubled from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

He also criticized the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, alleging that dues of ₹627 crore were left unpaid under the scheme.

Since assuming office in December 2023, the current government has reportedly:

  • Disbursed ₹2,046 crore under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund
  • Spent ₹2,400 crore on the Aarogyasri Scheme

“In total, about ₹4,500 crore has been spent for the healthcare of the poor,” the Chief Minister said.

Irregularities in Relief Fund Under Scanner

The CM also pointed out alleged irregularities in the distribution of cheques under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund during the previous regime. He confirmed that cases have been registered against those involved.

TIMS Sanathnagar Inauguration Delayed

Meanwhile, the TIMS hospital at Sanathnagar in Hyderabad is now expected to be inaugurated on June 2, 2026. The delay has been attributed to pending construction work, equipment installation, and staffing arrangements.

Focus on Strengthening Healthcare System

The Telangana government’s latest announcements underline a broader push to upgrade public healthcare infrastructure, improve financial coverage, and ensure better service delivery.

With the addition of 10,000 beds and new policy initiatives, the state aims to enhance accessibility and quality of treatment, particularly for economically weaker sections.
