A shocking incident in Andhra Pradesh raises concerns over mental health among medical professionals as police probe motive and source of injections

Doctor, Family Found Unconscious in Lodge Room

In a heartbreaking incident in Narasaraopet, Andhra Pradesh, a doctor associated with AIIMS Bhopal allegedly attempted suicide along with his family, resulting in the death of his wife and three-year-old daughter.

According to police, the doctor had checked into a lodge on Saturday evening with his 30-year-old wife and their minor daughter. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when hotel staff found all three lying unconscious in their room and immediately informed authorities.

Wife and Child Declared Dead, Doctor Critical

Upon reaching the scene, police found that the doctor’s wife and daughter had already died, while the doctor was still alive. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Officials stated that efforts are ongoing to stabilize him while simultaneously investigating the circumstances leading to the tragedy.

Suspected Use of Intoxicating Injections

Preliminary findings suggest that the doctor allegedly administered intoxicating injections to his wife, daughter, and himself in an apparent suicide attempt.

Police are now examining the source of the injections and whether they were procured legally or misused from medical access.

Motive Yet to Be Ascertained

Authorities have clarified that the exact reason behind the extreme step remains unknown. Investigators are exploring possible personal and professional stress factors that may have contributed to the incident.

A police official told UNI, “The doctor administered intoxicating injections to his wife, daughter and himself. The reason for the doctor couple taking the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.”

Parallel Case Highlights Mental Health Concerns

In a separate incident, a postgraduate medical student from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research reportedly attempted suicide by consuming around 30 phenobarbitone tablets.

The student was rescued in time and is currently stable in the ICU. While the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed, reports suggest she was under severe work pressure and mental distress.

Growing Focus on Mental Health in Medical Community

These incidents have once again drawn attention to the mounting mental health challenges faced by healthcare professionals across India. Long working hours, high-pressure environments, and emotional strain continue to impact doctors and medical students, underlining the urgent need for systemic support and intervention.
