Hyderabad: The release of the final provisional merit list and counselling schedule by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) for Telangana’s NEET-PG state-quota counselling has provided some relief to candidates after a period of uncertainty and delays. However, this announcement has sparked concerns among candidates, particularly regarding the timing of AIQ Round 3 and its overlap with the state counselling process.

Delay in State Counselling

NEET-PG candidates in Telangana have been vocal about the delay in the state counselling process, especially considering that two rounds of AIQ counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) have already taken place. Under normal circumstances, state counselling typically follows the first round of AIQ counselling, allowing candidates to evaluate their options and decide whether to accept national-level seats or wait for better opportunities through the state merit list.

The delay in releasing the state merit list and counselling schedule has left candidates in a dilemma, as they are unable to make informed decisions about their seat allocation in the state quota while AIQ counselling progresses.

Request for Extension of AIQ Round 3

In light of these concerns, Telangana NEET-PG candidates have appealed to the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and MCC for a postponement of AIQ Round 3 and an extension of the seat resignation window for AIQ Rounds 1 and 2. They have sought an extension until the completion of the state counselling Round 1 to allow better coordination between the two processes.

A NEET-PG 2024 candidate from Telangana shared their frustration with EdexLive, stating, “The seat matrix and schedule for round 1 of state counselling were released yesterday after much anticipation. However, we have approached the IMA seeking an extension of the seat resignation window for AIQ Rounds 1 and 2, as well as a postponement of AIQ Round 3.”

Response to Candidates’ Requests

In response to these concerns, the MCC had already extended the deadline for seat resignation in AIQ Rounds 1 and 2 until December 30, from the earlier deadline of December 26. Candidates have also sent formal emails to MCC, KNRUHS, IMA, and the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding their requests.

Current Status and Deadline

As for the Telangana state counselling, the choice-filling window for Round 1 is set to remain open until December 31, providing candidates with a limited window to finalize their preferences. However, the ongoing challenges reflect the ongoing pressure faced by NEET-PG candidates in managing both state and AIQ counselling timelines.
