State Health Department says no shortage of medical equipment; recruitment and procurement underway
Hyderabad: The Telangana Health Department has informed that a total of 1,770 ventilators are currently available across government hospitals in the state, while an additional 485 ventilators are in the process of procurement, indicating continued efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure.
The information was shared in the state assembly following queries raised by G Madhusudan Reddy to Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha.
MRI Expansion Planned Across Key Hospitals
The department stated that four MRI machines are presently functional in major government hospitals, including:
- Osmania General Hospital
- Gandhi Hospital
- Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital
- Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences
Additionally, eight new MRI machines are being procured and will soon be installed in hospitals such as:
- Niloufer Hospital
- Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital (Hyderabad)
- Government hospitals in Nizamabad, Siddipet, Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Mahabubnagar
CT Scan and X-ray Facilities Strengthened
Government hospitals currently have:
- 39 CT scan machines
- 195 X-ray machines
Further, eight CT scan machines are under procurement and will be installed in hospitals located in:
- Nirmal
- Jayashankar Bhupalpally
- Vikarabad
- Asifabad
- Mulugu
- Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital
No Shortage of Equipment: Health Department
Responding to concerns about potential shortages of medical equipment, the department clarified that there is no shortage in government hospitals, as reported by The Siasat Daily.
Over 2,200 Doctors Appointed Since 2023
Highlighting recruitment efforts, the department revealed that the state government has appointed 2,204 doctors in district hospitals since December 2023. Currently, 4,921 specialist doctors are serving in these hospitals.
Moreover, 2,278 vacancies are set to be filled by April 2026, including:
- 1,623 Civil Assistant Surgeon Specialists
- 607 Assistant Professors and Specialists
- 48 Assistant Dental Surgeons
Healthcare Infrastructure Set for Major Boost
With ongoing procurement of advanced medical equipment and large-scale recruitment of doctors, Telangana’s public healthcare system is poised for a significant upgrade, aiming to improve accessibility and quality of treatment across the state.
