Infant girl under medical care as police investigate shocking case of abandonment at Hamirpur medical college
In a disturbing incident, the mother of a newborn baby has been detained by police in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur for allegedly abandoning her child at Dr Radhakrishnan Medical College and Hospital, officials confirmed.
Parents Allegedly Fled After Birth
According to reports, the incident took place shortly after the woman gave birth on Monday. The parents allegedly left the crying newborn inside the hospital premises and fled without informing the staff.
Witnesses claimed that the couple, believed to be of Nepal origin, had come to the hospital for delivery but displayed unusual behavior after the birth, appearing indifferent toward the child.
Allegations of Attempted Baby Sale
Eyewitnesses further alleged that the couple attempted to sell the newborn for around ₹10,000–15,000. However, no one responded to their proposal.
Fearing exposure, the couple reportedly fled the hospital, leaving the infant behind. The incident raised serious concerns among hospital staff and bystanders.
Doctors Alert Authorities, Child Under Care
Doctors from the paediatrics department quickly intervened after noticing the abandoned baby and alerted the hospital administration. The matter was escalated, and the child helpline was informed to ensure the infant’s safety.
According to Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Balbir Thakur, the prematurely born baby girl is currently under medical supervision and is being cared for by the Child Welfare Committee.
CCTV Footage Under Review, Investigation Ongoing
Hospital authorities have started examining CCTV footage to identify and trace the accused. Medical Superintendent Des Raj Sharma confirmed that the police have been informed and further action is being taken as per established protocols.
The case has sparked outrage, with authorities emphasizing that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.
