doctor arrest

Kamareddy: A college dropout in Telangana has been arrested for impersonating a doctor and treating patients at several renowned hospitals, including Star Hospital, Arogya Hospital, and Bheemaraj Hospital in Lingampet, for the past two years. The accused, who claimed to have an MBBS degree from Gandhi Medical College, had forged his medical degree and license by editing documents from the Medical Council of India.

For two years, the accused managed to secure employment at multiple hospitals in Kamareddy town by falsifying his credentials. He even accepted a Rs 6 lakh advance from Shankumkha Hospital in Khanapur to work as a pediatrician, despite lacking the required qualifications.

His fraudulent activities were uncovered after representatives from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Kamareddy raised suspicions and filed a complaint with the Telangana Medical Council (TMC). Upon investigation, TMC Registrar Lalaiah Kumar confirmed that the certificates were forged, leading to the police being alerted.

The police arrested the accused on Thursday, seizing a fake Aadhaar card, fake medical certificates, a laptop, and a mobile phone. He is currently in judicial custody.

This case highlights the growing issue of quacks posing as certified medical professionals, a problem the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) has been actively addressing. In the past year, TSMC has filed 400 FIRs and issued notices to 40 doctors suspected of aiding illegal practitioners.
