Pune — A technical snag in the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system briefly disrupted outpatient department (OPD) services and new patient admissions at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital on Thursday morning, causing confusion and delays for hundreds of visitors.
The glitch occurred around 9:30 am, temporarily suspending the hospital’s internet connectivity and impacting all computer-based services, including token generation and lab report processing.
According to hospital officials, the power supply from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) remained uninterrupted. However, a fault in the UPS affected internal systems. Technicians quickly responded by providing a direct power connection to the hospital server, restoring services within 15 to 20 minutes.
Despite the swift response, many patients and their relatives experienced significant delays. Several people reported that the issue began even before 9 am and continued for over an hour.
Sandesh Shinde, a patient’s relative, said, “The issue started much before 9am and continued for more than an hour. I had to return home without a consultation because I had work.”
Another patient, Suraj Jadhav from Moshi, who waited through the delay, said, “Our appointment was delayed due to the late token generation. But the doctor took enough time to address our concerns, which made the wait worthwhile.”
The OPD at YCM Hospital operates from 9 am to midnight daily, with patients often arriving as early as 8 am. The unexpected outage led to crowding and temporary chaos in the hospital’s lobby and token counters.
Hospital officials confirmed that the treatment of admitted patients was not affected, though digital-dependent services such as lab reporting were delayed. They assured that steps are being taken to prevent such disruptions in the future.
