Ranchi — In a major boost to public healthcare infrastructure in Jharkhand, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, on Thursday inaugurated the newly developed 220-bedded ESIC Hospital in Namkum, Ranchi.

The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Defence Shri Sanjay Seth, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Pradip Verma, and senior officials of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). The upgraded hospital aims to serve over five lakh workers and their families under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mandaviya described the hospital as a “symbol of the hard work and dedication of our workers,” adding that it would significantly enhance access to healthcare services for insured persons in the region. He honoured ESIC beneficiaries with cash benefit certificates and also felicitated the construction workers who contributed to the hospital’s development.

“This hospital is not just a building, it is a temple. Doctors and staff are like priests, and patients are akin to God,” Dr. Mandaviya remarked, highlighting the government’s commitment to equitable healthcare. He also reiterated the Centre’s post-COVID welfare initiatives, including free food grains for 80 crore citizens and ₹5 lakh annual healthcare coverage under Ayushman Bharat for over 60 crore people.

Shri Sanjay Seth praised the project’s completion and advocated for expedited development of the approved ESIC Medical College, which received clearance in October 2024 for 50 MBBS seats. He lauded Dr. Mandaviya’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and welcomed him to Jharkhand.

Approved in June 2018 and built at a cost of ₹99.06 crore, the modern hospital spans 17,559 sq. meters across four floors on a 7.9-acre plot. The facility includes 34 wards, 6 isolation units, 40 OPD rooms, and 3 fully equipped operation theatres, with provision for an additional OT. It houses departments such as General Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, and Dentistry, and offers both OPD and IPD services.

Established originally in 1987, the Namkum ESIC Hospital has long served Ranchi’s industrial workforce. With this state-of-the-art expansion, it is now poised to provide specialty and super-specialty care, bolstering healthcare access in Ranchi and neighbouring districts.
